Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps)

(David Bowie)

E D E D A

E
She had an horror of rooms
D E
She was tired, you can’t hide beat
E
When I looked in her eyes
D E
They were blue but nobody home
E
Well, she could’ve been a killer
D E
If she didn’t walk the way she do, and she do
E
She opened strange doors
D E
That we’d never close again

E D
She began to wail jealousy’s scream
C G E
Waiting at the light, know what I mean

B
Scary monsters, super creeps
B A
Keep me running, running scared
Scary monsters, super creeps
Keep me running, running scared

(guitar solo in F#m A)

She asked me to stay
And I stole her room
She asked for my love
And I gave her a dangerous mind
Now she’s stupid in the street
And she can’t socialise
Well, I love the little girl
And I’ll love her till the day she dies

She wails Jimmy’s guitar sound, jealousy’s scream
Waiting at the light, know what I mean

Scary monsters, super creeps
Keep me running, running scared
Scary monsters and super creeps
Keep me running, running scared

(guitar solo in B)

Scary monsters and super creeps
Keep me running, running scared
Scary monsters and super creeps
Keep me running, running scared

E A E A D B

It really is a sort of a nasty piece of Londonism. It is the character on that and it is a character. It’s not too subjective. That’s just objective about the few people I’ve met. Actually he’s a sort of a criminal with conscience I think. Maybe it is about me, let’s see. He talks in terms of how he corrupted a fine young mind and so it’s the corrupt talking having his own self doubts I think.

The album’s title track was apparently indebted to an advertising campaign for Kellogg’s Corn Flakes, who were offering novelty gifts of “Scary Monsters and Super Heroes”.

Scary Monsters and Super Heroes
