ジョンシンクレアは米国ミシガン州出身の詩人で政治活動家。

John Sinclair (poet) - Wikipedia

69年に彼は2本の大麻煙草をおとり捜査員に手渡した科で逮捕され、禁錮10年の実刑を受ける。詞中の ten for two はこれを指す。
冒頭の It ain’t fair はこの余りに重い刑の不当性を訴えるもの。
fair/Sinclair/air/care と韻を踏んでおり、これに合わせる為なのか stir(刑務所)もまるで stair の様な発音で歌っている。

71年12月10日のこのジョンシンクレア解放集会の3日後、ミシガン州最高裁は州の大麻の法令を違憲とする判決を下し、彼は釈放される。
時の政権は共和党リチャードニクソン。
レノン自身もFBIの監視対象とされていた。

2024年4月2日逝去、享年82。
