車のメタファーを全編に散りばめた good old rock’n’roll を満を持して(かどうかは知らんけど)リリース！
同じくロックへの回帰を果たしたリッチーブラックモアを意識したかはこれまた知らんけど、スティング版 Highway Star とでも言おうか。
曲調はポリス時代の Demolition Man っぽくもある(偶然か the engine running という共通する語が詞に使われている)。

petrolhead とは、車狂い、の事。motorhead も同じ意。(metalhead なら、ヘビメタ好き)
作者スティングがインタビューでその死に言及した Motörhead のレミーキルミスターにも関連付けているのかも知れない。

Lay down and rest your head
他動詞 lay を自動詞 lie の様に使う事は多い。厳密には誤用。ただ例えばここでは lay yourself down 或は lay down your body の目的語が省かれた形と見なせもする。

ブリッジ(Bring me…)はウィリアムブレイクの詩の一節の引用。
同詩からは dark satanic mills という語が別曲 We Work The Black Seam で使われている。

writer’s block だとか、いい年こいて、みたいな否定的な声も本作には上がっているが、寄る年波を蹴散らさんとする姿勢にはただただ敬服。
御年65のロッカーはまだまだ健在。日本にもプロモーションで今月末やって来ます。
