今回本作を取り上げた動機はちょっとひねくれています。
それはこんな記事を目にしたから。
指して的を得たレビューとは思わぬも原記事に特に文句は無い。
ただ日本版の歌詞対訳が駄目。
特にこれ(強調は引用者)

すぐに君は成長する、そしたらチャンスを掴もう
ロマンスに夢中な変人カップルと一緒に
take a chance → チャンスを掴む、としている。
英語学習者の間では殆ど定番とも言うべき間違い。
正しくは
take a chance = take a gamble = take a risk = 一か八かやってみる
大人になるまでは、少しおかしな僕達(両親)のロマンスに満ちた生活に身を任せてみないかい、と言っているのです。
チャンスを掴む(機会を捉える)と言いたい場合は
get a chance
おまけに直前の英詞の but も間違い。ボウイは so と歌っている。
読者をして原本に当たらせる様な翻訳記事って…
そしてその(原)記事には、他の親へのアドバイスが本作の主眼であるかの様に書かれている。
しかし、子に対する親(ボウイ)の責任も含めた覚悟の表明に重きがあると私は思う(これに関しては解釈の差、間違いだなどと言う気は無い)。

学校や第三者に委ねたり、既存の社会規範を参照したりはせず、親たる自身の責任において子を導こうという決意の表れ。
pick on = いじめる、いびる
pretty kookie = very kookie
pretty はここでは形容詞(かわいい)ではない。
kookie は kook(変人)の形容詞形。
pick fights[a fight] with = 喧嘩を吹っかける
not much cop = not very good
この学校や喧嘩の件はボウイの左目の瞳孔散大を引き起こした実際の経験を想起させるものではある。
何にせよ、それこそ子供達が喜びそうな平和な歌という印象は皆に共通するものだろう。
