3番に入ると突然ギターの音の響き方が変わる。完全な継ぎ接ぎ。
2つの別のスタジオのテイクをくっ付けたとも言われる。

起伏の無い暗澹たるコード進行のギターをバックに、切々と語りかける様に歌う。

そして表題の文言を含むサビが何度も繰り返される。
A working class hero is something to be
この something は something good と解釈すべきだろう。
労働者の英雄になるのってカッコいいじゃないか…
とまあこんな感じだろうが、これはレノンが労働者に対して言わばポジティブに語りかけているものだと思っていた。鶏口牛後とばかりに。
しかし、バースに描かれる支配階級(= they)による洗脳の如き多くの無情な事例と終始陰鬱な曲調とに鑑みれば、やはりそれは誤りに思える。
最後のライン If you want to be a hero well just follow me も併せ、これらの話者はレノン本人でなく they であり、彼らはこんな悪魔の如き囁きで君らを手玉に取っているんだ、とレノンは労働者の蒙を啓かんとしているのだろう。詭弁なんぞで懐柔されるなと言うのです。
或はその「彼ら」に対する痛烈な当て付け(こっちが主か)。
