僕にも一人や二人の友達がいた頃に見聞きした事など
忘れなければならないだろうか
昔の僕達よろしく何も持たずに旅をする
僕は旅する光、身も軽く
au revoir(仏語) = さようなら
これがレナードコーエン(1934-2016)の辞世の歌と思わずにいられようか。
travel light = (荷物など持たずに)身軽に旅行する、軽装で旅行する
この light は副詞で「軽く」の意だが、これを名詞の「光」として
I’m (a) traveling light 僕は旅する光
という意味も持たせているのだろう。対訳も二様にした。
そしてこの光は、落ちぶれたスター(fallen star)に同義なのだろう。
Nirvana のカートコベインは Pennyroyal Tea の中でコーエンを持ち出した。
Give me a Leonard Cohen afterworld
So I can sigh eternally
死後もレナードコーエンの曲を聞かせておくれ
永遠に嘆いていられるように
そして、コベインの、同じく辞世と思しき歌 You Know You’re Right と、コーエンの本作中の一節にも奇妙な類似がある。
I guess you’re right, you always are
I know you’re right about the blues
死の準備をした者は自身の考えに拘泥せず他者をこそ正しい(you’re right)と認めるものなのだろうか。
これを諦観と言うのだろうか。
醜いエゴにしがみ付く私にはまだどうやら死ぬ価値が無い模様。
