If You Could Read My Mind (1970年)

ゴードンライトフットの、母国カナダで1位、英30位、米5位を記録したヒットシングル。
このサビと本作のサビ前の歌メロはほぼ同じ。

87年、ライトフットは剽窃を主張し、本作のプロデューサーでもある作曲者のマイケルマッサーを相手取り訴訟を起こすも、歌い手のヒューストンに悪影響を与えるのは本意ではないため訴えは取り下げた。結局、示談で決着し、マッサーが公に謝罪の意を表したというから、盗用を認めたという事になるのだろう。
ヒューストン(やベンソンやモハメドアリ)の輝かしい足跡に味噌を付ける曰く付きの歌となってしまった。

グレイテスト・ラヴ・オブ・オール
邦題はただの音訳表記だが、ならばラブ・オブかラヴ・オヴに統一してくれないと片手落ちで気持ち悪い。てかそもそもブとヴの発音を言い分ける日本語話者っているのけ？r/lやs/thの音を書き分けはしない(出来ない)のに、何故ヴなる表記だけ存在するのだろう。

あ、思い出した。筆者が初めてヴを目の当たりにしたのはこれのTVCMだった。

促音の後のブも含め、難読すぎて混乱した記憶がある。ほんで正式表記はヴィでもなくヴイックスヴェポラッブなのね。もう元の音に寄せる気もなさそう。原音に近似させるならビ(ッ)クスベイパラブとなるだろう。
