I make this claim, now let me explain

改まって前置きをしてから語り始める、スミス時代の What Difference Does It Make? に似た歌の導入法。
　All men have secrets and here is mine
　So let it be known
埋め草？(邪推)

主人公の名 Jacky は英国旗 Union Jack から取っており、exit はEUからの exit = Brexit を暗示している、というのが既に定説の模様。
すると you はEUで、stage は英国が活躍し得る「表舞台」という事になろうか。
また、exit(や cue)は演劇(舞台)用語でもある。
同様に脚本のト書きが使われた曲で思い出すのは Metallica の Enter Sandman (サンドマン登場)。詞中の語だと Exit: light, Enter: night (照明落として夜)。本作に Enter は出て来ないけど。

シーン2,4,6… ？何で歯抜け？何か含みがありそう、と思われた方、恐らく何もありません。きっと押韻の都合上こうなっただけ。

で、two と go は音としては韻を踏んでいない。字面の上で末尾が揃ってるだけ。

この中の
Everyone who comes must go!　来る者はみな行かねばならない
これは移民の処遇への言及だろうか。

「ブレグジットについては、素晴らしい結果に終わった」
積極的な pro-Brexit かは分からないにせよ、少なくとも作者モリシがEU残留支持者ではなかった事がこの発言から窺える。
彼を普通のリベラルと見る者にとっては少し意外かも知れない。でも彼にも Rule, Britannia! を叫ぶ選民意識はあるだろう(多分)。女王に文句言いながらも自身が英国という強大な文明国の栄光に浴しているという自覚もあるだろう(多分)。

英米のニュースメディアは左も右も衆愚と響き合って their own myth of reality (身勝手な神話の様な事実)を作り上げていると言い放っている所などは超越的な視点を持った観察者の面目躍如。この語は本作の中で the truth of make-believe と言い換えられている。トランプはCNNに fake のレッテルを貼るが、モリシに言わせりゃFoxも fake news だと。
そして、「ニュースを見るのは自己責任で！」と締めているが、これは今度は先行曲 Spent the Day in Bed の中の stop watching the news に繫がる。

exit 連呼とドラム連打の混沌の中、観客のいないジャッキーのドラマの幕は引かれる。ドラマーしんどそう…

ところで Hollywood Bowl 公演の本日11月10日をLA市が Morrissey Day に制定したそうな。

行く人には悪いがこの前みたいに開演直前にキャンセルになったらオモロいんだけどなあ。LA市長もズッコケること請け合い。
