当時も今もNY市の地下鉄に終電は無く、夜中でも1時間に2,3本は運行。

80年代どころか60年代に既にロックは時代遅れと見なす風潮があった。

「共作者でもある Johnny Colla の気取ったサックスソロと馬鹿らしい詞がロックの心意気を損ねている」なんて批判記事が当時 Rolling Stone か何かに出たそうな。まあ本作のファンからすりゃそんな印象批評なんぞどーでもよろしい。
本作は色んなスタイルの音楽を持ち出してはいるがそれらを貶してなどいない。色んなシーンで色んな音楽が演奏されるがその中でも心動かされるのは昔ながらのロックなのだ、と言っている。多様性を受容する一方で自身の(ある種保守的な)主張をも高らかに歌い上げる実に健全なロック賛歌と言えまいか(現代においてすら)。

バンドのギグで初めてクリーブランドを訪れたルイスは当地こそがロックの中心地との噂を耳にしていたが、60年代にサンフランシスコでグレイトフルデッドやジミヘンやクリームを目撃してきた彼は懐疑的だった。しかし実際にステージに立って目の当たりにしたのは想像を超える素晴らしいシーンだった。
そこで彼の口をついて出た言葉が

ロックの中心地はクリーブランドにあり。
因に「ロックの殿堂」はその財団が本作発表と同じ1983年に創設され、86年にその恒久本拠地として選定されたのがクリーブランド市。
