Tranquility Base = 69年7月20日にアポロ11号の月着陸船 Eagle が着陸した場所。アームストロング船長とオルドリン飛行士が命名。
因にボウイの Space Oddity の発表はこの少し前、69年7月11日。
また詞中の dark side はピンクフロイドの73年のメガヒットアルバム Dark Side of the Moon を思い出させる。

この manage の用法は反語的なもの。
crisp = 清々(すがすが)しい → これにはつい最近「きよきよしい」という読みが追加されたと聞く。
the moon’s side boob = 月の横乳
作者によればこれは細い三日月の事だそうな。素敵な(性的な)表現… だか何だかよう分からん…
