インタビューで本作に言及するジョンレノン

I’ll give you a for-instance: Bruce Springsteen’s Hungry Heart – which I think is a great record – is, to me… it’s the same kind of period-sound as Starting Over. I think The Cars’ Touch and Go is right out of the fifties ‘Oh, oh… ‘ A lot of it is fifties stuff. But with eighties styling, but, but… and that’s what I think Starting Over is; it’s a fifties song made with an eighties approach.

(スプリングスティーンの Hungry Heart と共に)50年代の音楽を80年代のアプローチで仕上げた点が自身の (Just Like) Starting Over に類似すると指摘。

レノンはその曲の制作にあたりロイオービソン(とプレスリー)を意識したと語っていた。リックオカセクの発声はオービソンに通ずる所がある(黒サングラスの佇まいも)。
このインタビューからはレノンが80年代の新しい音楽に可能性を感じている事が窺える。
しかし皮肉な事に80年代を彼は1年と生きる事が出来なかった。
このインタビューは1980年12月8日、殺害の数時間前に受けたものだった。
